A conductometer is an instrument that measures the electrical conductivity of an electrolyte solution using electrochemical measurement methods. Its measurement principle involves placing two parallel plates into the solution to be tested, applying a certain potential (usually a sinusoidal voltage) across the plates, and then measuring the current flowing between the plates. According to Ohm’s law, when the electrode constant (J) is known and the solution resistance (R) or conductance (G) is measured, the conductivity can be calculated. Conductivity is an indication of the ability of an electrolyte solution to conduct electricity and, in most cases, is directly proportional to the concentration of ions in the solution. Therefore, the determination of conductivity can be used to determine the total concentration of ions or the salt content in the solution. A conductometer can be used to quickly and accurately measure the total soluble salt content in soil, and is particularly suitable for soils with low salt content.
